Blind Repair
Most people don't even know that blinds can be fixed. That is what makes this a very enjoyable part of my job. I will try to diagnose over the phone, but if I don't understand what you are telling me or if I need to see the part to order it, then I will come to your home and look at it for free.
The easiest things to repair are honeycomb restring. It has been the most common repair that I have come across so I have gotten pretty good at it. Another common repair is tilter replacement. There are a lot of companies that use a plastic shaft for their tilters. After a few years, the tilter breaks. I try to find a metal shaft replacement (not always available) so it doesn't happen again.
Here are a couple of rules of thumb I have come up with to see if it is worth fixing.
1. On a honeycomb restring the main thing to look for is if your blind is delaminating - that is where the glue has lost its strength and the cells are coming apart.
2. Is there more than one thing wrong with your blind? If there are two things wrong, there probably will be more to come.
3. Is it cheaper to replace the blind than to repair it?
